SO…
You want to sell For Sale By Owner?...there are THINGS YOU MUST KNOW!! You should know the truth and steps to take before you begin.
You WILL receive calls DAILY by realtors … wanting to “help” you sell your home … what they really want is a commission … thousands of dollars…a percentage historically and consistently of 6% and rising. Not just a percentage of your “profit” or “equity” on your home, but on the entire SALE PRICE of your home…even the portion you may still be paying your mortgage on!
I once had a real estate agent schedule a “Showing” with me acting as a Buyer just to give me a sales pitch so she could sell MY home!
THE FACTS
The average cost for education to become a realtor is ONLY: $200-1000 depending on where you live. Time invested is a mere 63 to 180 hours maximum which is only about 6 weeks of education. Yet they want you to believe that they are the “experts” and that you “NEED their expertise”. It would actually be less expensive for you to get your own realtors license than to hire them to sell your home!
20% of agents have 0-2 years of experience, the next 30% have 3-5 years of experience…so what does that mean? Fifty percent of all agents have less than 5 years of experience and minimal training.
50% sell 0-3 properties per year and still make $20,000-50,000 annually. WHY? Because they are highly overcompensated.
Most sales are made not by the LISTING agents, but by the BUYER’S agents. Typically, the seller’s agent must split the commission with the Buyer’s agent.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Chances are you have made improvements on your home and paid for years to acquire equity in your home including the down payment! Why should anyone except YOU be entitled to a percentage of your efforts? Studies show that the average American may own anywhere from 3 to 7 homes in their lifetime!
What is the average length of time someone owns a house?
The most recent average duration of homeownership was eight years while the median was 13.2 years in 2021 — an increase of about three years over the last decade. On average, homebuyers expect to live in their homes for 15 years after purchasing — but usually it is several years less than what they anticipate. That’s tens of thousands of dollars lost if you paid a realtor each time you moved. MONEY that you earned and deserve to keep.
